Within the scope of the 8th Girne Culture and Art Days, the theatre play entitled “Esaretten Özgürlüğe” will be performed at Girne Amphitheatre on 31st July at 9pm.

Girne Municipality recently held a press conference about the drama “Esaretten Özgürlüğe” which is to be performed by Theatre AŞHK. Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü, actors Hüseyin Köroğlu and Şenay Saçbüker and the pianist Yılım Ceceloğlu attended the press conference at the Girne Municipality Art Gallery.  The play describing Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and the Turkish people’s War of Independence and their struggle in the process of the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, will be staged at Girne Amphitheatre on 31st July at 9pm.

Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü made a speech at the press conference, stating that Girne Culture and Art Days will continue with the second event, the theatre play, and emphasised the importance of the theatre activity with Cypriot artists and bringing them together with the audience.  Nidai Güngördü noted that Girne Culture and Art Days, which had been interrupted due to the election of local administrations, will continue until October and more events will be announced in the coming days.

Hüseyin Köroğlu, the founder and artistic director of the Theatre AŞHK, mentioned that Girne Culture and Art Days will entertain audiences with the second play entitled “Esaretten Özgürlüğe” following the previous theatre play entitled “Wingless Pigeons”. Huseyin Köroğlu stated that he had songs written by Turkish soldiers, and he also stated that Turkish Cypriots told how they served in the War of Independence. Köroğlu pointed out that the Castle of Otello on which the famous theatre play was based is important in the TRNC, and he noted that by using the magical power of art, another aspect of the country could be introduced.

Şenay Saçbüker, said Theatre AŞHK was founded in the TRNC 6 years ago, following its establishment in Turkey, to create a bridge of mutual cultural exchange between the two countries. Senay Saçbüker, said the theatre play explains the circumstances under which the Republic of Turkey was founded and recommended everyone to see the play.

Yılım Ceceloğlu, who will be playing the piano for the theatre play, emphasised that she would express her feelings with her fingers, pointing out that she is proud of her role as a republican woman in such a theatre play.
