Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Kudret Özersay has completed his London contacts. Özersay and his accompanying delegation has returned to the TRNC.

During his London contacts, Özersay gave a speech at Chatham House and met with members of the House of Lords. Özersay launched the “Project for the Turkish Cypriots living abroad” and held the opening of the exhibition called “Biz/Us”. Özersay paid a visit to the Turkish Embassy and attended the reception held for 20th July Peace and Freedom Day.

Furthermore, Minister Özersay met with authorities and representatives from the Turkish Cypriot non-governmental organisations in London, made statements to various press organisations and visited the TRNC Representative Office in London.

Özersay: “Each time we move away much more from a solution”

Speaking to TAK news agency on his way back from London, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Kudret Özersay said “If the international community choose the easiest way and tell us to continue the negotiations, the seeds of a new failure will be spread once again and we should accept that every negotiation, which ended without a conclusion in this 50-year long negotiation process, only served for further partition of the two societies in Cyprus. Therefore, I hope the temporary envoy will avoid a stance to resume negotiations from the stage that we left.”

Özersay also said that the international community should take a responsibility to question the current situation otherwise it was inevitable to make a move to change unfair status quo for the benefit of the Turkish Cypriots.
