Although it is not their responsibility, Girne Municipality cleaning branch teams carried out cleaning work at the Girne Boğazköy Picnic Area, which is under the jurisdiction of the Forestry Department, and collected about 130 large trash bags of garbage. The packed garbage bags filled a small truck.
Güngördü: Education and awareness must be created
Girne Mayor, Nidai Güngördü, stated that Girne Municipality carried out cleaning work in the Boğazköy Picnic Area on the Girne-Nicosia main road and said that it is not correct to think that “citizens clean up the garbage at the picnic area”.
Nidai Güngördü pointed out that those who wanted to use a picnic area should put their garbage in the containers provided after having a picnic.
Güngördü noted that citizens could increase their sensitivity towards the environment by conducting training and awareness studies and that they had already distributed leaflets in the region.
