Police General Directorate (PGM) is giving traffic training to 10 municipal police officers (Zabita) in the Municipality of Girne.

Municipal police officers are being provided with theoretical and practical lessons on legal authorities, basic traffic rules, file arrangement and public relations issues.

When the legal procedures, together with the training are completed, the officers will have the authority in the vicinity of Girne Municipality to write fixed penalties for motor vehicle drivers for traffic offences committed.

Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü recalled that in 2015 there were 5 officers who had the authority to write penalties, and noted the importance of the Municipality and the Police General Directorate to act together on traffic issues, which are an important part of city life.

Nidai Güngördü stated that the officers do not only write penalties but at the same time they fulfil many important duties in the city and he believed that the contributions of PGM will increase the visibility of this situation. Güngördü stated that the training sessions will soon be implemented within the Municipality and thanked PGM for their cooperation.
