We have just received news from St Andrew’s Church Kyrenia about their 3rd Annual Music week which we would like to share with our readers.

St. Andrew’s  Church, Kyrenia will host its third annual MUSIC WEEK which will be led by two experienced church musicians from Northern  Ireland,  Martin & Noreen White.

Martin was Organist and Master of the Choristers of St Patrick’s Cathedral  Armagh for 34 years, during which time he recorded numerous organ performances for BBC Radio 3 . He has written much church music as well as piano and orchestral compositions. Since his retirement from Armagh Cathedral he has undertaken many international tours  as an examiner for the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music, including Turkey, Singapore, Beijing, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, Germany, and Hong Kong (22 times!) Noreen , his wife who will accompany him on this visit to Kibris is a much in demand music teacher, accompanist and respected choir leader in her own right. One of the key events for St Andrew’s choir members is  on Thursday morning when during the initial workshop which Noreen will lead, introducing a range of new music to members.

Other events of the week include a FESTIVAL OF FAVOURITE HYMNS, all of which have been chosen by parishioners, and to which everyone is invited, will take place on THURSDAY 7TH JUNE AT 7.30PM.

On the following evening FRIDAY 8TH JUNE AT 7.30PM A CONCERT OF CHORAL AND ORGAN MUSIC. ALL PROCEEDS FROM THIS EVENT WILL BE IN SUPPORT OF LOCAL CHARITIES TULIPS and WOMEN’S REFUGE, LEFKOSA. It is hoped that the public will support this event particularly.

Music Week concludes on Sunday 10th June at a Sung Festal Eucharist in the church at 10.30am.

Earl Moffitt, Director of Music at St. Andrew’s told Cyprus Scene, “I am particularly pleased to have Martin & Noreen visit Kyrenia and St. Andrew’s for the first time. It has been my  pleasure to share in their extensive experience and expertise in Armagh, over many years. I am also thrilled that our choir members here (most of whom are “swallows”!) are all here for this special week of music making. They have given up much personal time & talent to prepare, in particular for the Friday night charity concert….this promises to be an evening of good music interspersed with popular organ solos, poetry reading and audience participation. Refreshments for all present on Friday evening,  will be served  in the precincts of the church afterwards.  We look forward to a great week of music making and extend a warm welcome to those attending the various events”
