Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Kudret Özersay received newly appointed British High Commissioner Stephen Lillie.

Özersay congratulated Lillie for his assignment and wished him success in his role.

Özersay further stated his desire that the good dialogue and strong relations established with his predecessor Matthew Kidd will continue in the period ahead.

Drawing attention to the fact that the UK has both historical and legal obligations in Cyprus as one of the three guarantor countries on the island, Özersay said that the UK’s representation in Cyprus was different in that sense from other foreign missions.

In addition to regional issues and bilateral relations, the future of the Cyprus problem, possible measures to take, and the UK’s Brexit process were also discussed at the meeting.
