Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım stated that the Greek Cypriot Administration’s unilateral hydrocarbon exploration activities in the Eastern Mediterranean exemplify the narrow-minded approach of the Greek Cypriot side.

In his interview to the newspaper Tovima in Greece, Yıldırım assessed the two countries’ relations.

Referring to the issue of Cyprus in the interview, Yıldırım noted that Greek Cypriots could not tolerate the political equality of the Turkish Cypriots and that all efforts have remained unresolved since 1968.

Yıldırım also stressed that a lasting and sustainable solution on the island would contribute to the stability and prosperity of the Eastern Mediterranean.

Referring to the unilateral hydrocarbon exploration activities of the Greek Cypriot Administration, Yıldırım said, “This is an example of the Greek Cypriot’s narrow-minded approach. They behave as if the island is their own, and they ignore the rights of the Turkish Cypriots. Turkey will continue to protect both its own rights and that of the Turkish Cypriots.”
