President Mustafa Akıncı stated that the agenda for the 16th of April meeting with the Greek Cypriot leader Anastasiades will address those topics which “needed to be talked about”.
Speaking at an event, President Akıncı stated that it is not enough for only the Turkish Cypriot side to demand that the next generation of Cyprus should live in peace and stability, and that all interested parties should want this same vision.
Akıncı said: “We need to establish systems for peace and cooperation in and around this island. We must agree in a logical way on the energy and security policies on the island. This is possible so long as our neighbours on the Greek Cypriot side understand that we are equals, rather than excluding us.”
President Akıncı expressed his willingness to meet with the Greek Cypriot leader Anastasiades on the 16th of April with this understanding in mind.
Reiterating that the two leaders have discussed many of these details over three years, Akıncı said that there are issues on which they agree, and issues on which they do not.
“At the point we last reached, I believe everybody realized that negotiations cannot continue for another 50 years on the same grounds, and that conditions will not allow for this anymore. Those who still do not understand this, need to be helped to understand it” said Akıncı.
