Girne Municipality organized an event in Ramadan Cemil Square for World Women’s Day on 8th March.

Girne Municipality organized a “Poetry and Music Concert” event on March 8, for World Labour Day for Women. In addition to the citizens, UBP Girne MP deputy Gürçağ Altuğra participated in the event. The event took place in Girne Ramadan Cemil Square, and Anafartalar High School teacher Oya Kutsal made a special speech about the meaning of the day.

In addition, Şht Hasan Cafer Primary School teacher Sevgül Ulgün, Oğuz Veli Middle School teacher Burçak Güldoğuş and Girne Municipality Art Director Derman Atik gave readings of poetry.

There was music from the Dilara Ferit Band, and the event ended with a walk to the Atatürk Statue in Kordonboy.

Güngördü: We are a people-orientated

Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü spoke at the event on March 8, World Working Women’s Day; and spoke of the struggle, solidarity, violence against women, wrong politics and a stand against gender discrimination. Nidai Güngördü stated that they are a people-orientated municipality that values women and children and that violence, abuse and gender discrimination against individuals is unacceptable. Given that they wanted to see more women in the country’s politics, municipalities and social life, Güngördü celebrated women’s day for all women.

Altuğra: Women are the foundation of society

UBP Girne MP Gürçağ Altuğra pointed out that women are the nucleus of the community, which is based on society. Gürçağ Altuğra stated that she organised her house as a mother and a wife. Altuğra argued that women should move equally, hand in hand, shoulder by shoulder, and to be able to exercise their rights.
