The Near East University women’s basketball team added yet another feather in their cap, by winning the 2018 Women’s Basketball Turkey Cup, by defeating the Hatay BSB club, 86 – 79.
Near East University (NEU) had also won this cup in 2017. The tournament was organised at the New Ataturk Sports Centre in Mardin, Turkey, from 21st to 25th February.
After winning the Euro Cup, Turkey League championship and the 25th President Cup, the latest win also brought to light yet an another unique record of the team. So far they have won all the tournaments that they contested in the recent past.
On their way to the final, the NEU team had defeated Abdullah Gül University team 88-53 in the quarter final and Botaş Spor 79-63 in the semi final.
The Cup was handed over to the winners by Hidayet Turkoglu, the president of the Basketball Federation of Turkey. Courtney Vandersloot of NEU was declared the best player due to her outstanding performance, throughout the tournament.
