By Margaret Sheard ….

The Cyprus Veterans of the Suffolk Regiment who were posted to Cyprus for their National Service in the late 1950’s will be having their Spring Reunion from around 12 noon on Sunday 29th April at The Rushbrooke Arms in Sicklesmere, Bury St Edmunds, UK.

The event is being organised by Derek Chilvers and he will be pleased to see as many of his old comrades who can make it to the Reunion.

This is always an event where the men who served together when they were very young can recall their memories and catch up with their buddies from those far off days.    Sadly the numbers are diminishing, most recently with the death of Pat Arbon and Derek will be asking for glasses to be raised in memory of Pat and the others who have passed on in recent years – Chris Veness, Bobby Vine, Keith Barron, Derek Tye, all sadly missed.

The Reunions are both sad and happy times for the Cyprus veterans but they enjoy spending a few hours together, having a nice meal and talking about their memories of a time when they were far from home.

It is so nice that some 60 years later there is still the same camaraderie of yesteryear.

    1. That will be good, I am sure you will enjoy meeting up with other Cyprus veterans. I have passed your comment to Derek Chilvers and no doubt he will be in touch with you soon.

      1. Many thanks from me and the lads for the wonderful help you give us, an awful lot of our success with our reunions is down to you.

      2. Thank you for your kind words Derek, it is always a pleasure to write about you guys.
