Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has cautioned the Greek Cypriot Government against unilateral hydrocarbon-related activities around the island of Cyprus.

Speaking at a meeting of the TBMM parliamentary group, President Erdoğan said “We are aware of opportunist attempts to carry out natural gas exploration activities in the Eastern Mediterranean and in the Aegean Sea.” He added that he was sending a warning “to those who overstep the mark” in Cyprus and the Aegean.

Erdoğan recommended that foreign companies operating in Cypriot waters do not become a tool for the Greek Cypriot side by engaging in business that exceeds their limits and powers.
