The 8th inter-school Dr. Fazil Küçük composition competition was held recently in relation to the anniversary of the death of the national leader of Turkish Cypriots, who died on 15th January 1984.

As in the past, the competition was organised by the Education Ministry of the TRNC. This competition gave the youth a chance to carry out research on the life of the great leader, and to realise the importance of the struggle led by Dr. Küçük.

In the High School category the first prize was won by Meryem Sensoy of Near East College. The second prize was won by Ece Simşek of Namik Kemal High School, and the third prize went to Melin Kayapınar of Turk Maarif College.

In the Middle School category of the competition, Eylul Sonmez of Famagusta Turk Maarif College received the first prize. The second and third prizes were won by Sude Yildiz of Famagusta Turk Maarif College, and Dilay Gumeç of Famagusta Turk Maarif College respectively.

Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of the competition Mr. Fevzi Tanpinar, the Assistant General Manager of Vodafone told the audience that this annual competition helps the new generation to have a better understanding of the hard work of their national leaders. He also mentioned that so far over 500 students have participated in these competitions and 48 of them had won prizes.

Mr. Mehmet Küçük, the son of Dr.Fazil Küçük, emphasised the need of further research and work to be done on the lives of the national leaders, more specifically of his father, who had spent whole his life working for the betterment of Turkish Cypriots.
