Esentepe continued with their impressive run of form, scoring 5 goals against a poor Değirmenlik side. The home team had no answer to a rampant Esentepe side who are now unbeaten in 6 matches.

Result : DEĞİRMENLİK SK 2 ESENTEPE KKSK 5

Saturday 8 December 2017, K-Pet League 1, Venue : Değirmenlik Sadık Cemıl Stadı.

The impressive Sadık Cemıl Stadi is proving to be a lucky ground for Esentepe as they have now played Değirmenlik 3 times at this new Stadium. They have won here 4-2, now 5-2 and in between a 0-1 defeat, they have also won 4-2 in a play off match against Dumlupınar so it is proving to be a lucky Stadium.  I still find it amazing that for a new Stadium the toilets still have the ‘footprints in the sand’ type!.

DEĞİRMENLİK SK v ESENTEPE KKSK

Disappointingly on a beautiful warm sunny afternoon, the home support was very poor maybe 25 spectators turning up as opposed to around 30 Esentepe fans plus 3 Expats.

To think Değirmenlik were playing Super League football last season it is very depressing for them, with no support and a general feeling of apathy.

Esentepe with their limited squad welcomed back on the bench Ahmet Karal, and İsmail Uçar both not fully fit to play 90 minutes, but at least it gives the Coach more options.

A nice touch for Esentepe was that Hüseyin Ermiş was made “Captain” for the day, as he has been called up for his National Service next week and will be missing for a while.

Değirmenlik had a golden opportunity to open the scoring in the 10th minute when Celal miss-skewed shot went to Osman Sah with the goal at his mercy but he shot wide. Greek Cypriot Philippos then shot over after Esentepe defender Onur misjudged the high bounce off the synthetic surface.

Esentepe took a little time to settle but gradually gained the initiative and it wasn’t long before they took the lead in the 36th minute through top scorer HASAN ÖZÇELİK. There seemed to be no danger when the striker fastened onto a Eser pass, he rode a challenge and then with 3 opponents closing in he unleashed a fierce shot from 25 yards that flew into the net past a startled Mustafa. 0-1

Değirmenlik quickly equalised in the 42nd minute when they won a free kick just outside the Esentepe box. Celal took the kick, Esentepe goalkeeper Kemal came for it, but was muscled off the ball by the burly Değirmenlik defender SÜLEYMAN TÜRKER who headed the ball home. Despite Esentepe appeals that goalkeeper Kemal had been impeded the goal stood. 1-1

The goalkeeper made amends for his earlier error, when he parried a powerful Yusuf shot, and then getting up quickly to parry the rebound from Philippos.

Right on the stroke of halftime Esentepe regained the lead with a scrappy goal. A Mahmut free kick produced a scramble in the Değirmenlik goalmouth as the ball popped out to Eser whose overhead flick was diverted via the bar and into his own net by defender Gençali. HALF TIME SCORE : 1-2.

Esentepe at half time brought on Ahmet Karal for teenager Yakup.

Esentepe stunned Değirmenlik in the 51st minute when they increased their lead again with the help of an own goal. In a quick break, Huseyin passed to Ahmet and then onto Hasan Özçelik who outstripped the defence that had stopped appealing for offside, before sending a cross that was deflected into his own net at the far post by Özner. 1-3.

Esentepe were now dominating the game with Değirmenlik having no answer to the visitors’ lightning raids. Time and time again they sprung the offside trap and it was like a knife cutting into butter,

Esentepe further increased their lead in the 63rd minute following a long throw in by Ahmet that found Başak, who crossed to the far post for the unmarked ESER to head in. 1-4.

By now most of the home supporters had departed and there was an eerie silence in the big Stadium as Esentepe continued to tear apart a dispirited Değirmenlik team.

Değirmenlik were caught wide open again in the 78th minute, when Başak timed and delivered his pass to perfection for AHMET KARAL to run onto it and slot it past Mustafa . 1-5.

With Esentepe now easing back on the throttle Değirmenlik scored a late consolation goal in the 81st minute when their best player PHILIPPOS went on a mazey run past three players in the area before finishing with equal aplomb. FULL TIME SCORE : 2-5.

Esentepe Man of the Match Mahmut in action, goalscorer Hasan Özçelik, Eser and Ahmet

SUMMING UP : Not a lot you can say when your team scored 5 goals away from home. A great team performance with the tactics spot on as Değirmenlik had no answer to Esentepe incisive and rapier like breaks.

Every player played his part, but there has to be a “star man”: and this week it was MAHMUT who dominated the midfield especially in the first half and was behind a lot of his team’s moves.
