George Harrison born on February 25, 1943 in Liverpool, was a young cool shy guy who became a legendary musician after joining THE BEATLES .

He joined the group in the late 1950s as lead guitarist and singer. He had been named as the “quiet beatle”, since he was not so outspoken and active on stage like John Lennon and Paul McCartney, but he remained an undetachable part of the group until it dissolved in the late 1960s.

Apart from being the lead guitarist, Harrison wrote some wonderful songs for the group, which became hits, and helped them to reign in the music world for a very long period of time. His most popular song used to be “While my Guitar Gently weeps”, which has been re-sung by innumerable celebrities of the music world.

Later on his interest in eastern music and musical instruments led him to India, where he cultivated a close working relationship with Ravi Shankar, the renowned Indian Sitar player. All this led him to learn more about Eastern Spiritual practices. In 1968 he visited northern India and developed a close link with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, a spiritual leader of that time.

After THE BEATLES disbanded in 1970, George Harrison pursued his solo musical career, along with his interest in Indian spiritual practices.

In 1974, his marriage to Pattie Boyd ended, with a sad note. His studio work struggled too. During the late 1970s and 1980s he managed to have short-lived  working partnerships with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, the ex-Beatles.  But with the passage of time, he removed himself from the active music life. He largely became a homebody, remaining busy with gardening and his cars.

In 1998, Harrison was diagnosed with throat cancer, which was duly treated.  In May 2001 he underwent lung surgery, when the doctors found that cancer had also spread to his brain. He died on 29th November 2001, at a friend’s house in Los Angeles. His wife Olivia Arias and son Dhani were by his bedside, when he died.
