The TRNC is taking part in the World Travel Market 2017 Tourism Fair which is underway in London from the 6-8 November 2017.

The World Travel Market is the world’s second-largest tourism fair, bringing together leading representatives of the tourism industry from around the world at the Excel Centre in London’s Docklands.

The TRNC has set up “The Turkish Cypriot Culture House”, in an area over 203.5 square meters, to showcase the unique aspect of the TRNC culture. This includes imitations of some ancient bowls and pots found in the country during excavations of historical sites, which are of significant archaeological interest.

Speaking at the event, the TRNC’s Minister of Tourism and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu underlined the TRNC’s commitment to developing sustainable tourism. Highlighting that the TRNC offers not only sea, sand and sun, but also it is a host of other cultural, historical and eco-tourism attractions which the TRNC will continue to work with industry stakeholders to showcase and develop, Ataoğlu continued: “We are working intensively to improve the tourism in our country.”

Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Numan Kurtulmuş also visited the TRNC stand. In his speech, Kurtulmuş said: “TRNC is part of our lives and part of our country. It is really important that the TRNC is represented here at this beautiful fair. It goes without saying that as Turkey, we are ready to cooperate in every way with the TRNC in all fields, including tourism.”

Minister Atun: “TRNC will take its rightful place in the development of new energy projects”

Economy and Energy Minister Sunat Atun emphasised yesterday that he supports a model on the Cyprus issue that strengthens relations with Turkey. He also stated that, “The TRNC will become a country which takes part as an active partner in the emerging energy equation in the Eastern Mediterranean, especially in energy projects developed and led by Motherland Turkey’s political power and vision.” He noted that the TRNC is ready to cooperate with the Greek Cypriot Administration in any energy projects to be developed alongside Turkey and the TRNC.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Minister Atun said that discussions regarding a new model in Cyprus are ongoing, but added, “Although our existence is accepted, we are politically an unrecognized state. We are expected to sit at the negotiating table under these circumstances. The time has come to put into effect our Plan B – without abandoning the goal of a settlement but not remaining tied to the negotiating table at all costs. We will never make a concession on our relationship with Motherland Turkey.”
