Yes we are hoping for fireworks in what potentially is an explosive “derby match” with our near neighbours Görneç. Or perhaps like some of our childhood memories of bonfire night it will turn out to be a damp squib.

ESENTEPE KKSK v GÖRNEÇ SK kick off 2-00pm.
The “mountain men” of Görneç haven’t far to travel, when they visit Esentepe on Sunday.
After winning promotion from the BTM League this summer, Görneç have made a steady, if not unspectacular, start to the season. They currently lie in 12th place on 7 points. They have won 2 matches, drawn 1 and lost 3. They haven’t conceded many goals but they don’t score many goals either. Görneç won their last match at home to Doğancı 2-1. Scoring goals was no problem when striker Arda Özkan was in the side and he scored 26 goals in their successful promotion bid. However I do not know what has happened to him since, as he is not registered with Görneç for this season and his goals have been sorely missed. Görneç are a useful team with some experienced players none other than Mustafa Arnavut who is in top form and was outstanding in last week’s win against Doğancı.

Esentepe, going back to the firework theme, hopefully have had a “rocket” delivered to them by Coach Davut Kansu after a dreadful performance against Göçmenköy last week. To be honest Esentepe have not played well for the last 4 matches, and I expect changes to the team and hopefully a new system will be employed as well. A “sparkling” performance is required, or the bonfire may have something extra to burn on it after the match!.

Esentepe suffered a “downer” this week when striker Eser Kan suffered a broken foot in training and will be missing for a while.
Both sides however were given moral boosters this week with the return of 2 players who have been out long term with injuries.
For our visitors midfielder Hüseyin Yildrim has been out for a while with a knee injury, but made a return coming on as a late substitute last weekend.
Esentepe sees the return of Burak Tümkan (26) who has been out for around 3 years with a pelvic injury. Burak who is a useful and experienced player, who can play at full back and in midfield, has been greatly missed. A popular player he has rejoined the squad in training this week after spending most of the season running around the Stadium. I expect a place will be found for him on the bench.

This week we go back to season 2015-16, in what turned out to be a pulsating derby match.
Result : ESENTEPE 3 GÖRNEÇ 2.
This match was played on the 14/11/2015 and after a run of 8 games without a win Esentepe at last recorded their first win of the season.
Esentepe suffered a tragic blow in the 17th minute when midfielder Vurkan was carried off on a stretcher with a serious knee injury (sadly he has not played football since).
Esentepe took the lead in the 23rd minute with an own goal from Firat Kulle, heading a bouncing ball past his own keeper. Firat would later play for Esentepe for a season in 2016/17. Görneç equalised through that man Arda and took the lead on the brink of half time through a thunderous shot from Rifat.
Eser equalised for Esentepe in the 71st minute prodding home a long ball from Mahmut. Then in injury time substitute Emrah fastened onto an Ilyas through ball to win this thrilling match for Esentepe.
