Cyprusscene.com has received an invitation from Fikri Toros, the President of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce to share a statement as under following the meeting with the British Secretary of State for Transport, held yesterday the 11th of October in London.

The discontinuation of “touch-down” flights between the UK and Ercan airports

“On Wednesday 11th October 2017, representatives of the Council of Turkish Cypriot Associations (UK), the British Turkish Cypriot Association, the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce (Cyprus) and the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Commerce (UK) met the Rt Hon Chris Grayling MP and the former Leader of the Conservative Party, Iain Duncan Smith MP, to discuss the current arrangements for passengers flying from North Cyprus to the UK.

All key issues were explained and it was agreed that further investigative work is required in order to try and find a resolution to the matter which was re-confirmed as “security related” only. The Turkish Cypriot NGOs named above have lent their unreserved collaborative support in order to expedite matters with the Ministry of Transport and all other relevant authorities. During the meeting, it was confirmed that the travel restrictions are only applicable from North Cyprus to the UK.”

  1. Dear Margaret and Chris,

You two are doing more for the North of Cyprus than most of our officials but it looks as if you have managed via your very successful Cyprusscene.com website to wake up some NGO ‘s in the UK and if they follow up and keep pressurizing their MP ‘s we might get somewhere especially with the Air Transport issues and maybe with all the other ongoing unreasonable Embargoes.

We in the Tourism industry would like to thank everyone that is helping to make our Air Transport service for Tourism easier to reach this wonderful part of the island of Cyprus which years ago I named it as a Corner of Earth Touched by Heaven and now Chris and Margaret are working to make it even better and we thank them for everything they are doing to help Northern Cyprus.

    1. Thank you John for your kind words which we will share with a larger audience.
