By Margaret Sheard …..

There were in excess of 100 people attending the Royal British Legion, Kyrenia Branch, Mediterranean Supper event which was held at the Blue Song Restaurant in Lapta on Friday 6th October.

It is still possible to sit outside at this time of year and what better than by the shore of the Mediterranean with the water lapping gently below you.    The event was organised by RBL Treasurer, Lillian White, and she did a great job, in fact additional tables had to be arranged as more people had arrived than expected.

We were pleased to be sharing a table with the Reverend Wendy Hough, who is also the RBL Chaplain and her friend John Crothers who spends a lot of his time in North Cyprus and plays the organ at St Andrew’s Church, although he is soon due to return to his home in Paris.   As usual there were many familiar faces at the supper and I am sure there were some we missed with so many people being present.

There was an excellent hot and cold buffet laid on by Blue Song and soon the guests were filling their plates and enjoying the food.   The entertainment was provided by Dominic Holmes, who treated us to many old and new favourite songs as well as giving us some excellent guitar music, and he soon had people up on the dance floor.  A very good and versatile performer.

Later in the evening the raffle was drawn and there were some lovely prizes to be won and it was nice to see both Wendy and John had a winning ticket.   Lillian announced that an amount of 1,025TL had been raised from the raffle.

Revd. Wendy also took the opportunity of giving a short reminder to the guests of a forthcoming talk at The Hermitage on Saturday 21st October at 7pm when Miko Peled, the author of The General’s Son : Journey of an Israeli in Palestine,  will be giving a very interesting account of his life, with question time and a book-signing.    Wendy said she is so pleased she has been able to persuade Miko to come to North Cyprus and she would really like to see a large gathering of people at The Hermitage to hear his story.
