President Mustafa Akıncı has reiterated that the Turkish Cypriot people are ready to share their future with Greek Cypriots, under the indispensable principles of equality, freedom and security.
The President stated, “If we cannot live under one roof, we will look for ways to live in peace and tranquillity under two roofs, side by side. Such a roof already exists – it is called the Turkish Cypriot Republic of Northern Cyprus. It may not be recognized but it is a reality. It cannot be ignored.”
He continued, “There are some things that cannot be denied. The first is your equality. The second is your freedom. The third is your security. We are ready to share a future together in equality, freedom and security. From now on we will be ready. There is a forthcoming presidential election on the Greek Cypriot side – what do they want? Are they able to live in peace on this island under the same roof with two equal halves? Can they accept a Turkish Cypriot as a president for the whole island? If we cannot live under one roof, we will look for ways to live in peace and tranquillity under two roofs. I will be going to New York next Tuesday to meet the United Nations Secretary General with clear intentions to do the best for peace.”
Foreign Minister Ertuğruloğlu to hold meetings in New York and Washington
Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu left the TRNC yesterday to attend a series of meetings at the 72nd United Nations General Assembly in New York, after which he will travel to Washington D.C for further meetings with US think tank groups and media representatives.
Ertuğruloğlu will attend the Annual Coordination Meeting for Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) within the scope of his New York visit. Ertuğruloğlu will also give a speech at a meeting with the Council of Ministers of the Organization for Economic Co-operation (ECO).
The Foreign Minister will be accompanied by Foreign Ministry General Director Kemal Köprülü and Second Secretary Çağrı Kalfaoğlu during his US trip.
