The 53rd Anniversary of the Erenköy Resistance will be marked today with a ceremony to remember the resistance martyrs.

Over the course of the Erenköy resistance in 1964, which has a special place in the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people, around 530 Turkish Cypriot university students studying in Turkey and the UK travelled to Erenköy by boats, and struggled against Greek Cypriot attacks.

On 5th August 1964, local Turkish Cypriots of the Erenköy region and the 530 university students struggled against the attacks of 15,000 fully armed Greek Cypriots, despite insurmountable hurdles.

The Erenköy Resistance came to a head with the intervention of warplanes from Turkey on 8th August 1964.

Özgürgün: “We never forget those who fought for our freedom and to establish our state”

 

Prime Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün has stated that the TRNC will never forget those who fought for their freedom and to establish a state on this land. He said that the Turkish Cypriot people have asserted once more that they are committed to protecting their sacred homeland and the glorification of their republic.

In his message on the 53rd Anniversary of Erenköy Resistance, Prime Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün said: “They sacrificed their own lives for the sake of their homeland so that the Turkish Cypriot people could live in freedom. I remember them with respect and mercy.”

TRNC identity card applications to open in London

 

The Ministry of Interior has announced that from now on, TRNC identity card applications will be possible at the TRNC London Representative Office in the UK.

Interior Minister Kutlu Evren has stated that the work to receive applications for ID cards at the TRNC London Representative office is now complete. The development follows the installation of e-identity card application devices at the Ankara Embassy and the Consulate General in İstanbul.
