By Chris Elliott…….

Many of our readers are so frustrated by the unjust treatment implemented by the UK, EU, UN and the world in general against the Turkish Cypriots of Northern Cyprus.

This frustration is often shown through comments made on articles we have published and we even receive letters from readers who ask us to publish them.

We have received the following letter from Richard Chamberlain which we understand has been sent to PM May and FM Johnson and perhaps it’s time with the UK heading for a Brexit and being punished by the EU for even thinking it, to stand up and show that the UK still is “Great Britain”.

It’s time for change and long awaited justice. The UK will be damned if they do or don’t take the lead in solving a problem they created and have chosen to ignore for the past 50 plus years.

Readers Mail……….

“Dear Prime Minister, Teresa May and Foreign Minister, Boris Johnson,

In 1954/55 I was called up for National Service and served in the Royal Signals in Cyprus. At that time the British ruled the Island.

Richard Chamberlain

On April 1st 1955, a terrorist campaign started to get the British out and gain Independence, and also “Enosis” (Union with Greece) was stepped up.

After a lot of trouble and bloodshed the Turkish Army “Intervened” and restored calm. Since then the Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots have lived separated by a United Nations “Green Line”. It should be said it has been mainly peaceful since.

Unfortunately and Unjustly the Greek Cypriots were allowed to join the European Union without the Turkish Cypriots. Since then the Greek Cypriots have done everything they could internationally to make life harder for the Turkish Cypriots, who are “Embargoed” and not recognised by the rest of the world, and yet it has been the Turkish Cypriot side that has voted for reunification. They were promised recognition by the EU and UN, but nothing has been done about it.

“Peace Talks” have just failed again because of the Greek Cypriots intransigence so I think it is now time for the British Government and You, to take the lead and Recognise The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, especially as Britain is leaving the European Union and needs as many friends and Trading Partners as she can get. Recognising Northern Cyprus would please Turkey immensely and then Turkey, with 77 million people, could be another large Trading Partner for Britain.

Another thing that Britain has unjustly and unfairly recently done is to introduce new flight restrictions on passengers travelling to and from Northern Cyprus who have to stop over at Istanbul. Now the British Government has introduced new restrictions where passengers have to disembark and go through “Security Checks” again. This is completely unnecessary because there has never been any problem flying from Northern Cyprus to Britain or back again. This is making Old People, Disabled People, Women and Children, massive inconvenience for no reason. Most of these people are enjoying their retirement in Northern Cyprus and are being severely inconvenienced for visiting friends and relations in Britain. You could stop this now just by telling the department that introduced this stupid idea to, Stop it Now!

Please do this now, and you will gain a lot of friends. I hope you will read this letter and take the points in it seriously and act on them,

Yours Sincerely,

 Richard Chamberlain”

  1. Excellent letter Richard.
Can we now get a signature partition going so that it can reach the House of Commons.

  2. Good on you Richard Chamberlain for spending time and writing to the PM of Britain. Turkish Cypriots appreciate what you are doing on their behalf. Lets see what reply you will get !

    1. Thanks Sermen Erdogan.

It has been suggested we get a signed petition to present to the Prime Minister, Foreign secretary and House of Parliament. Have you any ideas how we would start and do that?

  3. I salute you Mr Richard Chamberlain and thank you very much behalf of Turkish Cypriots

  4. Lets hope they read the letter and act on it.

There are many British Expats in Northern Cyprus living peacefully with the Turkish Cypriot population. It is heartbreaking to see how these peaceful people have been treat as a result of the lies and propaganda circulated by the Greeks.

The Greeks should NEVER have been accepted into the EU as it has carried out a program of discrimination against the Turkish Cypriots and Turkish.

I once took a young boy who was celebrating his 18th birthday on a day out to Southern Cyprus. He was born and brought up in Cyprus to Turkish parents and believed that once he was 18 and had him kimlik card he would be able to go to the south of the island of his birth. All he wanted to do was See the South and get a BigMac.

When we got to the border the Greek Authorities asked him to provide the ID nos of his parents (which he did) they then refused him entry into the south of the island of his birth. He then asked me to get him some postcards so he could see what it looked like. that is how an EU Country is treating a Cypriot born Turkish resident.

  5. Thank you Mr Richard Chamberlain,

It is a wonderful letter written with a lot of feeling and what’s more this is from someone who experienced some of the unfair tactics used on the Cypriot Turkish people for more than half a century.

The guilty Greek Cypriot party became rewarded by EU with membership after the Greek Cypriots rejected the Annan Peace Plan and the rest of the western world supported this grossly unfair decision.

We are not asking any country to take sides without investigating the Cyprus problem, all we are saying is please try to find out the TRUTH and that will embarrass any person with a little bit of human feelings it will make you wonder how on earth did the world allow so many criminal actions to carry on for so many years trying to assimilate them on a community of people that have been always friends of the western world. Now the time has come for everyone to search for the TRUTH

Hopefully Mr Richard Chamberlain’s letter will be taken seriously by all fair minded people in power in the UK but also in the UN, USA, RUSSIA and the rest of the world.

The Cyprus Disaster we are suffering is because of greedy and lying politicians full of massive egos. It must not be allowed to go on indefinitely and all we are asking is for the TRUTH to be exposed.

I would also like to thank cyprusscene.com for continuing to publish important information which is supportive of the TRNC and the Turkish Cypriot cause

    Thank you

    1. Thank you John Aziz Kent for your very supportive and complimentary comment.

  6. Thank you for your efforts. There should be more like this to create some sort of pressure on the authorities. A petition is certainly a good idea. I have seen some and signed but we need our English friends and neighbours to join in.

  7. Dear Mr Chamberlain your letter and efforts must be commended. As a London born Turkish Cypriot I like many are personally affected by the latest travel regime to Northern Cyprus. Despite the well documented embargo Turkish Cypriots and all habitual residents of Northern Cyprus are subjected to on a daily basis the worlds eyes and ears have been absent thus far.

On a local level a Greek Cypriot has been elected as my constituency MP needless to say it is unlikely the perpetual Embargo of Northern Cyprus will be at the top of his agenda despite his election promise to represent all his constituents of Enfield and Southgate with equality .

  8. CHRIS LET US HOPE HE GETS A REPLY AND THAT IT CAN BE PUBLISHED ON YOUR CYPRUSSCENE

    1. Thank you Ann.

Like never before we now have the opportunity to step up and bring pressure to bear on those who can decide to bring justice to the TRNC.

  9. As a Turkish Cypriot myself, firstly I would like to thank Mr Richard Chamberlain for his action towards Justice for Northern Cyprus which as far as Turkish Cypriots are concerned is Long Overdue. Obviously there are a lot comments to be made on this issue but it would take too long So, I would just like to end my comment simply by saying that hopefully Mr Chamberlain’s letter will be affective and at last as (TCs) we will have our Justice!!

  10. Hi Richard,

As a Turkish Cypriot you make me feel so happy by knowing that we are not alone in this universe…. On behalf of myself and my country I would like to thank you for fighting Turkish Cypriots rights which was ignored for so many years by the powerful countries…

    God bless you..

    1. Thank you Konce for your nice words and we have passed your message to Richard.

  11. If only people was allowed to purchase the book THE GENOCIDE FILES by Harry Scott Gibbonns (i must add has been taken off the book shelves and banned in the u.k) they would then understand how the British,UN, and the EU have unfairly treated us.
Could this be anything to do with the Queens husband being greek ?,I know if Diana was still alive she would have something to say about this matter
