June 3rd saw almost 60 members, family and friends of the Rotary Club of Kyrenia Cosmopolitan enjoy a sunny Saturday morning Brunch at the Villaggio Restaurant in Zeytinlik. This was not only one of the regular ‘friendship and fellowship’ events that the Club holds, but also a chance to fundraise for the Club’s contribution to Rotary International’s ‘PolioPlus’ campaign to end polio. Wild Polio still exists in 3 countries: Nigeria, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, and until it is completely eradicated every child needs to be immunised.

Over 1,000 tl was raised which will be trebled by the ‘Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’, translating in real terms to over 1400 doses of the polio vaccine. This event has met the Club’s annual international commitment, meaning that all other fundraising activities can now be dedicated 100% to local projects.

The upcoming Pub Auction and Music Day at Jessic Bar and Restaurant in Karsiyaka on Sunday July 9th will provide essential funds towards the current major Rotary Club Project: the extension of classroom facilities at the Yesilyurt Special Needs School near Lefke. The school is adjacent to the CMC Golf Club where the first Rotary Club Golf Tournament sponsored by ALBANK will take place October 14 & 15. Proceeds from this Golf Tournament will also go directly to projects at this school.
