Ertuğruloğlu meets Turkish National Defence Minister Fikri Işık
Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu held a meeting with Turkish National Defence Minister Fikri Işık. During the meeting, which was held at İstanbul TUYAP exhibition centre, Minister Ertuğruloğlu informed Işık about the Cyprus negotiation process and the latest developments in Cyprus.
Minister Ertuğruloğlu attended “IDEF 2017 13. International Defence Industry Fair” in İstanbul as a guest of the Turkish National Defence Minister Fikri Işık.
Following the opening ceremony of the fair, Ertuğruloğlu toured the stands of defence products and was briefed about the displays. Ertuğruloğlu also held further meetings during his visit in İstanbul.
Müftüoğlu: “Groundless allegations” concerning Turkey’s rights and interests in hydrocarbon exploration “completely unreal”
The Spokesperson of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hüseyin Müftüoğlu made a statement about the groundless allegations made against the TRNC by the Greek Cypriot side concerning the exploration of natural resources.
He said, “The article concerning the Greek Cypriot Administration’s unilateral pursuit of hydrocarbon-related activities in disregard of the inalienable rights on natural resources of the Turkish Cypriot people, published in the GCA’s “Cyprus Mail” newspaper, contained groundless allegations which could be taken to imply that Turkey might have relinquished some of its rights and interests. The faulty assessments in the Turkish media based on these allegations are an exercise in futility”.
Leaders meet European Commission delegates Verwey and Nuffel
President Mustafa Akıncı and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades met with the Director General and Head of the Structural Reform Support Service in the European Commission, Maarten Verwey and the European Commission’s President on the Cyprus problem, Pieter Van Nuffel. The European Commission delegates made a presentation about the actions which should be implemented with regards to the EU before any settlement is finalised.
In his written statement following the meeting, the Director General and Head of the Structural Reform Support Service in the European Commission, Maarten Verwey expressed that they are ready to provide technical support through experts, to assign private sector and member state experts on request, and to make analyses and recommendations if required.
President Mustafa Akıncı and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades will have a meeting today at 18:30 within the framework of the Cyprus negotiations process.
TRNC Cittaslow Municipalities to attend Cittaslow International General Assembly in Australia
The TRNC is being represented at the 10th Cittaslow International General Assembly in Australia with a committee under the presidency of Mehmetçik Mayor Cemil Sarıçizmeli.
The 10th Cittaslow International General Assembly will continue until 12 May. Yeniboğaziçi Municipality, Lefke Municipality and Mehmetçik Municipality are members of Cittaslow from the TRNC.
The TRNC flag also took its place among the flags of the member countries at the general assembly.
