Readers letter from Richard Chamberlain…….
Good Morning Chris,
I hope you and Margaret are well. I don’t know whether what I have got to say is relevant to Cyprusscene, but I have been so incensed by the way the Europeans are treating the UK over proposed negotiations.
I have sent a letter to the Daily Mail and although we are guests in Northern Cyprus, there are a lot of British people who will be interested and concerned about the way things go and turn out in the so called “negotiations”. My letter read like this:
“Thousands of British men and women gave their lives in WWII to free the French, Dutch, Belgians, Italians and other European countries from the German tyranny, and now a majority of the British People have voted to leave the EU, those European countries have forgotten that and turned against us. They are aiming to teach us a lesson and show what will happen to other countries if they have the audacity to leave the EU.
Thanks a lot Europe! I hope if there is another time when they need help, we will tell them where to go!
I hope Teresa May does not give in to these bullies, and if necessary walk away from a bad deal.
Britain has had it rough before in the past and got through it and if we pull together we can get through it again.
If we get a bad deal, let us all stop buying things made in Europe and buy British or from a country outside the EU.
Lastly, I would very much like the British Government to be the first to recognise Northern Cyprus. We have got nothing to lose now!

Why should Northern Cyprus be recognised? It is NOT part of Cyprus while it is occupied by Turkey and therefore should not be recognised as anything other than that. Not sure what point you’re making.
The point being made is that although so many people do not realise it, North Cyprus does exist and even without official recognition it is taking its place in the world.
I am sad to read your comment and hope that one day you will be able to emerge from your mental state of Cyprus denial, and come to terms with how the world has changed and Northern Cyprus with it.
Richard Chamberlain, I think that most of the Cypriot Turkish population welcome the British expats who prefer to live in TRNC. As a community, the British expat members are part of Cyprus and valued and contributing members of TRNC community. I wish the best for Britain in their endeavors due to Brexit and hope that the bitter EU can understand the feelings of British people.
Sermen: its not the “feelings of the British people”, its the feelings of 52% of the British people who voted. We have friends from England visiting at the moment, and they are still very upset at the impact of the June 23rd referendum and the xeonophiobia that has re-surfaced in the UK. Every friend I have with an Irish grandparent is applying for a Republic of Ireland passport so they can retain their rights as EU Citizens.
Democracy does not just mean ‘get 50% of the vote then repress everyone else’ (as your tonamesake in Ankara is doing!). It means free speech, debate, tolerance, acceptance of minorities, a free media, and a free judiciary.
I left the ROC as I found them damn right rude people and so self centred. I would never ever go back to that part of the island, hence why I will move back to the TRNC.
The ROC will never get what they want, all due to their greed from decades ago and instilling it into their kids and their kids.
Though we all hear that they all lived together in peace. If this were so, why did what happened happen? Now in 2017, they still look up to ENOSIS and promote them and look up to a now failed country. Greece, who is in Dire Straights.
Looks like they will never learn and I hope that TRNC will blossom and grow. Then the ROC will start to grovel their way back to a determined and a humble people in the North.
