ATAOĞLU: We are controlling and protecting cultural heritage for future generations
Under the protection of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, the “Coming from Soil; Ancient Terracotta Figures” exhibition has opened at the periodic Exhibition Hall of St. Barnabas Icon and Archaeology Museum.
The exhibition, opened by the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Fikri Ataoglu, exhibits terracotta sculptures with a history of 2,700 years which are under the protection of the Ministry.
It was stated that the purpose of the periodical exhibition hall was to share the historical and archaeological richness of the island with the public by exhibiting the artefacts of archaeological excavations and preserved works carried out by the Ancient Works and the Office of the Museums.
The Periodic Exhibition Hall will be open until April 10, 2018 for Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic and Roman Periods; and the Ancient Terracotta Figures.
Tourism and Environment Minister, Fikri Ataoğlu, said in his opening speech that “We, as the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, are determined to protect the best of all cultural heritages for future generations without distinction of language, religion and race in our country where many different civilizations have lived and have been discovered.
Ataoglu emphasized the consciousness that cultural heritage is the property of all mankind and the protection of cultural heritage is the most important task of taking the best care and transferring it to future generations; he also gave brief information about his work with the Güzelyurt Natural and Archaeological Museum renovation, the opening of Kumarcilar Han, the opening of a museum in every town, going into action with a Conservation Centre, Şömineli Ev, Derviş Paşa Mansion, the renovation of the Museum of Namık Kemal.
