“THE PERCEPTION OF THE TRNC AS A HOLIDAY DESTINATION SHOULD BE CREATED”

THE TARGET IS 850,000 TO 900,000 TOURISTS IN 2017

On the second day of the Travel Expo Ankara Fair, the TRNC stand continued to receive interest.

The Travel Expo Ankara Fair at the ATO Congresium Fair and Congress Center has now finished. The Mediterranean and Cypriot culture as well as Cypriot delicacies were introduced at the fair where the visitors were also able to make purchases. Within the scope of the fair events, there was a Kemal Deveci Kaval concert and also performances by the community folk dance group of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus which were watched with great interest.

On the second day, representatives of the Ministry of Tourism and sectoral participants held an evaluation meeting.  The Ministry of Tourism and Environment Undersecretary, İsmet Esenyel, who made a pre-meeting announcement, said that the TRNC Tourism Ministry emphasized that the support of sectoral participants as well as their own work is very important   He stated that he had a great interest and had formed a very strong synergy within the TRNC stand which was established by the sector representatives of the Ministry.  He also stated that the Culture Department of the Ministry of National Education and Culture attracted attention with the organization they do at the fair.

Esenyel said, “We need to seek all alternative tourism opportunities – from ecotourism to village accommodation, to walking paths” and added “This is a team business, we need to explain our products to the people who live here with the contributions of yourselves.”   He also pointed out the importance of establishing the perception of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to the people who live in Turkey.

Last year, 500,000 people from Turkey visited the TRNC and this figure is expected to be 850-900,000 in 2017.
