The 2017 Ladies cricket season is upon us, with regular training taking place ready for the first round of matches in April. However, it is not only a new season but the TRNC Ladies will be led by a new captain.
49 year old Gina Mapp who moved from Ashford in Kent to Lapta 2 years ago has taken on the role. She said “I never played cricket until I came to North Cyprus, but it’s a game with everything, high paced and very exciting as we play a short soft ball version of the game. I also enjoy the practice every Saturday morning as it’s fun and great for my fitness”.
TRNC Cricket Association coach Nigel Holman said “Gina will add a lot to the team, she’s very committed and I’m sure will be able to inspire the other ladies. He added, he wished to thank retiring captain Hale Silifkeli for all her hard work”. Unfortunately following a knee injury she won’t be able to play anything for a while, so she felt it was better if someone else captained the team.
Gina Mapp invites anyone interested in playing as well as meeting new people to come along to the Pia Bella ground at 11am on Saturdays. For further details call her on 0533 833 5113.
