It has been very difficult for us to travel to Lapta to attend the weekly get-togethers of The Foreign Residents in the TRNC (TFR) so we were delighted to hear that it is intended to hold an additional get-together on the east side of Kyrenia.
A meeting was held at the Panta Restaurant in Çatalköy on Wednesday 1st March and a large number of people attended to discuss the proposed new arrangement. The Chairman, Willy Lindh, thanked everyone for attending and asked for their thoughts on what day the get-togethers should be held and how often etc. After some suggestions it was decided that initially the get-togethers will be held every Wednesday at the Panta Restaurant in Çatalköy from 3pm to 5pm and if this proves to be unworkable then new arrangements can be discussed. There will be a TFR committee member at the new Wednesday get-togethers who will be able to deal with any queries which may arise from members.
We were pleased to see Willy Lindh – Chairman, Horst Gutowski – Treasurer, Tommy Rognmo – funeral committee and Pam Tschersich – events organiser, and we apologised for our absence at get-togethers and various events throughout the year, due to our heavy workload on cyprusscene, but it was nice to be able to chat and also to meet some of the other members, old and new.
The Friday get-togethers in Lapta will continue as previously so now people will have a choice of attending one or both of these events and it will be much easier to choose depending on where members live or how far they are able to travel.
TFR now have 380 members from 28 different nationalities and it is most likely that the membership will now increase with people living in the area of the new east side venue.
This is a very friendly club and the committee do so much to bring people together with the many events and also holidays, which they arrange each year. Everyone is made very welcome.
