Saner to attend the OIC meeting in Jeddah

The Minister of Labour and Social Security Hamza Ersan Saner will go to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in order to attend the Ministerial Conference under the theme “Towards an OIC Approach to Empower the Marriage and Family Institution and the Preservation of its Values”.

According to a statement given by the Ministry, Saner will leave the island today to attend the meeting between 7-10 February and will return to the island on Friday.

Eide in Ankara

The UN Secretary General’s Special Advisor on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide arrived in Ankara for meetings with Turkish officials. Eide will hold a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım at 17.00 today. Eide is expected to continue his meetings tomorrow as well.

Special Advisor Eide also held meetings in Athens last week and asked the leaders to make preparations, in consultations with the guarantor powers, for another international conference in early March.

Arpalık Martyrs were remembered

Five Turkish Cypriots who were killed during the resistance against the Greek Cypriot attacks in the Arpalık village in 1964 were remembered with a special ceremony held at the Tekke Garden Martyrdom in Lefkoşa.

The wreaths were laid at the martyrs’ cemeteries, following a period of silence and speeches. Independent Deputy Hasan Taçoy and UBP Deputies Zorlu Töre and Ersin Tatar attended the ceremony.

Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu was remembered on the 37th anniversary of his death

Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu, who is known for his services during and after the resistance years of the Turkish Cypriot people, as well as being the founder of the TMT and former health minister, was remembered at his graveside on the 37th anniversary of his death.

President Mustafa Akıncı, First Lady Meral Akıncı and a number of political party representatives were present at the ceremony, as well as his family members.
