Merkel and Yıldırım discussed the Cyprus issue
Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel yesterday, who had been in Ankara for a working visit. A bilateral joint press meeting was held after the meeting.
Stating that he had an opportunity to discuss the Cyprus issue with the Chancellor, Yıldırım said: “A solution in Cyprus is our greatest desire. A united Cyprus will naturally be the solution desired by both Europe, Turkey and Greece. It is important for all parties to be more careful, more patient, and to make the necessary mutual sacrifices.”
In her speech at the press conference, Merkel stressed the need for a conclusion on the Cyprus issue.
“This is a very important issue for Greece, Cyprus, Turkey and the European Union as a whole” Merkel said.
