I am delighted together with my colleague Qossay Eleyan to bring you an interesting report on “Discovering North Cyprus” from the Eaved House which is a mansion in the Selimiye quarter of Lefkosa and it is named after its wide eaves that support its hall prot
ruding into the street. It is located to the southeast of the Selimiye Mosque.
Its year of construction is not known and after restoration it was opened officially as the Eaved House Centre of Culture and Arts on 23 December 1996.
The building is L-shaped and surrounds an inner courtyard. The lower floor displays Lusignan architecture, whereas the upper floor displays the Ottoman architectural style and was developed as a house during the Ottoman period upon the remains of a medieval building.
This show will be transmitted on BRT2 on Monday 6th February at 19.00pm and repeated on Sunday 12th February at 12.20pm.
