International Conference to be held in Geneva on 12 January
The two leaders have agreed to restart negotiations and to meet in an international conference on 12 January.
President Mustafa Akıncı and Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Anastasiades met at a dinner organised by the Special Adviser of the Secretary General on Cyprus, Mr. Espen Barth Eide. The two leaders discussed the recent situation and agreed to resume the negotiations.
According to a statement given by the UN spokesperson, the leaders have decided to immediately re-engage in their negotiations and have instructed their negotiators to continue meeting in order to achieve further progress on all outstanding issues interdependently.
The Leaders have also agreed to meet as soon as possible with the aim of finding a comprehensive solution.
The talks are expected to start in Geneva, Switzerland on January 9. The two sides will present their respective maps on January 11. The guarantor powers Greece, Turkey and the UK would thereafter join the conference from January 12. Additional parties will be invited to the conference, if it is necessary.
President Akıncı to inform members of parliament about the recent developments in the negotiations
President Mustafa Akıncı will inform members of parliament about the recent developments on negotiations. The General Council of the Parliament will have an extraordinary meeting today with this aim. The previous extraordinary meeting of the General Council of the Parliament on 24 November had been cancelled due to President Mustafa Akıncı being ill.
Akıncı will meet with Juncker, Schultz and Mogherini
President Mustafa Akıncı will be in Brussels between the dates 5-7 December, 2016.
Akıncı will meet with President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Parliament Martin Schultz and High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini.
Separately, President Mustafa Akıncı received the UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide yesterday.
Çavuşoğlu: “I gave information about the latest developments on the Cyprus issue”
The Fifth Joint Strategic Planning Group Meeting, a sub-organ of the Turkish-Russian High Level Cooperation Council (HLCC), was held in Alanya under the joint chairmanship of Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and his counterpart Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The two Ministers also signed the 2017-2018 Consultative Action Plan.
Speaking at a joint press conference, Çavuşoğlu stated that he informed Lavrov about the latest developments in Cyprus.
Çavuşoğlu added: “We also evaluated regional issues today. Indeed, if Turkey and Russia act together, we can solve many problems. I gave information about recent developments in Cyprus. Russia’s support is important here.”

Dear President
You are wasting your precious time, forget the negotiations and concentrate on getting NC recognised in its own right as a separate country.
So do you suggest the President will get “NC recognised in its own right as a separate country” when only Turkey has done so in 42 years?
What I’m saying is that when these negotiations fail, as we believe they will, as NC is not recognised presently, then make it a country in its own right. The souths approval is not really needed for anything, NC has a huge amount to offer IF the President and his cabinet get their act together. don’t make it another built up area like the South. NC could be very special but only if they stop allowing bad planning, filthy litter everywhere and get direct flights. Everyone who goes to the North and the numbers are increasing, love it, but the only bad feed back is the dirty beaches, litter and derelict half built houses everywhere. All that could be rectified if laws were put in place – ok it won’t happen over night but the potential for NC is fantastic.
