Leaders to hold 5-day meeting in Switzerland

President Mustafa Akıncı has confirmed that the two Cypriot Leaders will hold a series of meetings in Switzerland over 5 days between 7 – 11 November.

According to President Akıncı, the meetings are of vital importance, and are part of the penultimate phase of the negotiations for a solution on Cyprus.

A positive outcome in Switzerland will lead to the five-party meeting which will be held shortly afterwards, Akıncı said.

“We will discuss all the chapters including territory. As long as we have political will and determination, it will be possible to make more progress”.

President Akıncı stressed that Switzerland could be a turning point in the Leaders’ efforts to reach a settlement before the end of 2016.

The 93rd Anniversary of the Founding of the Republic of Turkey will be celebrated with ceremonies in the TRNC.

As part of the 29 October Republic Day celebrations, ceremonies will be held in Lefkoşa, Gazimağusa, Girne, Güzelyurt, İskele and Lefke.

Celebrations will start on Friday 28 October with a speech by the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Derya Kanbay on BRT at 13.00.

Mogherini to visit Cyprus

Federica Mogherini, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, will pay a one-day visit to Cyprus tomorrow.

Mogherini will be received by President Mustafa Akıncı and the Leader of the Greek Cypriot Administration Nikos Anastasiades.

Mogherini will depart from the island tomorrow after completing her official meetings.

Sunat Atun: “We can share water and electricity supplied from Turkey with the Greek Cypriot side”

Economy and Energy Minister Sunat Atun stated that the agreement which was signed with Turkey in the energy field was important in terms of increasing the diversity of energy in the TRNC as well as enabling the TRNC to sell energy.

Speaking at the meeting of Chairmen of the Mersin Union of Chambers of Tradesmen and Craftsmen (ESOB), Economy and Energy Minister Sunat Atun said that, should it be requested, the TRNC can share the water and electricity supplied from Turkey with the Greek Cypriot side.

“We always offer a hand of friendship to the Greek Cypriot side. We are ready for all kinds of cooperation” Minister Atun added.
