Sunday October 9th 2016 @ Mehmetçik Stadium.
Esentepe continued their build up for the new season with a hard fought scoreless match dominated by two strong defences.
The match played in warm conditions drew a fair crowd to the run down Mehmetçik stadium which is in desperate need of TLC (aren’t we all!).
The first half was mostly played outside both the goal areas, and the only real chance of the half, even the match come to think of it, fell to Methmetçik in the 39th minute. Esentepe gave the ball away on the right touchline and a Methmetçik player made progress into the Esentepe area with the defence holding off the player managed to get in a shot which Tuğrul in the Esentepe goal made a fine diving save. Half Time: 0-0.
The match continued more or less in the same vein played in the midfield with plenty of endeavour and effort by both teams but with no end product.
51st minutes and a mistake by Esentepe defenders Firat and Nersin, who both got themselves into a tangle gave an opportunity for Mehmetçik’s number 9 but he fired over the bar.
Apart from a free kick in the 75th minute which Esentepe’s replacement keeper Ali tipped over the bar there were virtually little scoring opportunities.
Esentepe created very little though striker Taccettin worked hard upfront and in the first half created himself a half chance but shot wide. He also in the 90th minute put over the bar a free kick just outside the box. Full Time: 0-0.
To be honest not a very entertaining match for spectators to watch but a good work out for both teams. Metmetçik have signed 7 players in the summer and they are still bedding in. Esentepe new Coach Davut Kansu is still getting to know his players and also the players are trying to get used to the new coach. One pleasing factor was a clean sheet for Esentepe in which Firat and Nersin had strong games in defence. Huseyin in midfield also put in a good shift.
