President Akıncı met with British Foreign Secretary Johnson
Yesterday, President Mustafa Akıncı held his first meeting in New York with the UK’s Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.
In his statement following the meeting, Akıncı said “We summarized the current stage of the Cyprus negotiations and shared our views on what the next steps should be.”
The Foreign Secretary has shown great interest in the Cyprus talks and is closely following developments on the Island, Akıncı said, Foreign Secretary indicated that he will continue to support the process to the end.
Johnson highlighted that he is satisfied with how the talks are progressing and that the UK will continue to support and contribute to the talks.
As part of his official New York visit, President Akıncı will meet with US Vice President Joe Biden today. Akıncı will meet with UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon on Saturday, and again on Sunday in a tripartite meeting with the Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Anastasiades.
Foreign Minister Ertuğruloğlu met with Turkish Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu
Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu met with his Turkish counterpart Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu yesterday as part of an official visit to New York.
Both Ministers evaluated the ongoing Cyprus negotiations. Areas of cooperation between the two ministries were also discussed.
Ertuğruloğlu is in New York for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) annual Council of Foreign Ministers’ session and a meeting with the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is an observer member of the ECO.
