Nuland: “USA is ready to help the parties for a settlement”

The US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland said that the US is ready to help the parties to reach a settlement on the island.

Speaking to the press following her meeting with President Akıncı, Nuland stated that the United States is eager to help the parties to come to an agreement and added that she observed good progress on the ongoing negotiations.

Furthermore, Victoria Nuland said that the US is ready to contribute to the economic dimension of a possible settlement on the island.

Eide: “Despite the un-finalised issues the atmosphere of the negotiations is good”

UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide said that there are many issues that cannot be finalized at the ongoing negotiations on the Cyprus problem however the atmosphere in the talks is good.

Stating that he also agrees with the statement of the leaders regarding the talks were “productive”, Eide said that on the contrary to the expectations of some parts, there is not a relaxation in the negotiation process and the negotiators of the two sides have a busy schedule.

Hristodulidis: “Divergence on the property issue is continuing”

The Greek Cypriot Administration Spokesperson Nicos Hristodulidis stated that President Mustafa Akıncı and the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades discussed the Governance and Property issues at their meeting held last night and they achieved improvement on these issues. Hristodulidis also stated that the divergence on the issue of property is still continuing.

Furthermore, Hristodulidis added that they have reached some agreements on the Governance and Property chapters, but disagreement on the property issue whether the user or the owner will have the first right is continuing.

Regarding the meeting of Anastasiades and Nuland on the energy issue, Hristodulidis said that they focused on the third round of license tender and the hydrocarbon resources in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Tuğrul Türkeş will arrive in the TRNC today.  Türkeş will hold a series of high level contacts in the TRNC.

Dr. Fazıl Küçük Museum was opened

Dr. Fazıl Küçük Museum was renovated and opened to the public yesterday. An opening ceremony was also organized due to re-opening of the museum.

Dr Fazil Kucuk museum opened

The two-storey building on Girne Avenue No.172 which was used as a residence and a clinic since 1939 by our existence and freedom struggle leader Dr. Fazıl Küçük, first opened to the public as a museum in 1997. The museum was the first private museum in the TRNC.

The museum which was opened in the 13th year of his death, was fully created by the contributions of Dr. Fazıl Küçük’s Family.

With the opening of his house as a museum it was aimed to keep the place that he lived for many years alive and to reflect his struggle to large masses within the bounds of possibilities.

The museum was used as resistance headquarters of the Turkish Cypriot people until the establishment of the Turkish Resistance Organization (T.M.T.) in 1958. It was also the headquarters of the political leadership after the establishment of the TMT.

The museum became the management centre of the “Halkın Sesi” newspaper from 1942 until the death of Dr. Fazıl Küçük. In his speech during the opening ceremony of the museum President Akıncı said that Dr. Fazıl Küçük is coming together once more with the public.
