Friday 25th March saw the first of the Kyrenia Amateur Dramatic Society (KADS) on tour productions at the Pia Bella Hotel in Girne.

The evening consisted of a 3-course meal and the comedy “The Older They Get” which was written by Phil Lucock and directed by his wife June Lucock.  The theme of the comedy was 4 pensioners at St Kads Retirement Home and their conversation, some rational – some not quite so rational from Marjorie, who is slightly “away with the fairies” portrayed by Diana Peek and she was joined by Elsie (Jacqueline McIntyre), Reg (Bill McIntyre), and Larry (Ian Chennell) all giving an excellent and amusing twist to the topics under discussion.   From time to time Nurse Mary Neville (Deborah Bahadir) appeared to check on the residents and there was a visit by Dr Sydney Johnson (Paul Abel).

We had already had our starter and at the end of the first act the main course was served and we then settled down to the second act which was set on the front seats of a coach taking the 4 intrepid pensioners accompanied by their nurse on an outing called the “St Kads Magical Mystery Tour”.  Again very amusing conversation from the 4 “residents”.

I am not giving too much away as the performance will be repeated again on Saturday 26th March and also at KADS second venue of the Mountain View Hotel in Karaoğlanoğlu on the 5th May, which will give the people in the west side of North Cyprus an opportunity to see this very well written and amusing production.

KAR and SOSAll of the proceeds from the 3 performances will be donated to KADS chosen charities – SOS Children’s Village in Lefkoşa and Kyrenia Animal Rescue (KAR).

There were many familiar faces at the event and we enjoyed the company of Şirin Hassan (Fundraising and Public Relations) and Refika Ince (National Director) from SOS Children’s Village.  Unfortunately, the 5th member of our table –Joyce Oxley (wife of the late director of KADS, Lawrie Oxley) was not well and could not attend.

The performance of “The Older They Get” is with 2 different casts, one group at the Pia Bella Hotel and the second cast at the Mountain View Hotel.  So if you didn’t manage to book for the Pia Bella there is still a chance to have an evening out with a meal and some amusing entertainment on 5th May at the Mountain View Hotel.

Thanks to KADS for an excellent evening of entertainment and to the Pia Bella for a lovely meal and their staff who looked after us so well.

Look out for news of more KADS productions throughout the rest of the year – there is a lot more to come.   Click here to view KADS facebook page and to see details of the 2 KADS casts and details of the production team click here
