Schulz to visit Cyprus

The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz will arrive in Cyprus for an official visit  on Monday, 28 March. Schulz will have contacts both in North and South Cyprus. President Mustafa Akıncı will receive Schulz on Tuesday, 29 March at the Presidential Palace. According to the statement given by the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), Schulz will visit the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) Anthropology Laboratory on Tuesday, 29 March and will discuss the issue of missing persons and the EU’s continued support to the CMP with the three members; Ms. Küçük, Mr. Nestoros and Mr. Arni. Schulz will also make a statement to the press after visiting the laboratory.

Schulz will also have a meeting with Turkish and Greek Cypriot party leaders and representatives at Ledra Palace Hotel with the initiative of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Nicosia. Slovak Ambassador to South Cyprus Oksana Tomova and President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz will make speeches.

Greek Cypriot daily Politis reported that Schulz will address a special session of the Plenary of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, March 29 and will have separate meetings with the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades and the President of the Greek Cypriot House of Representative Yiannakis Omirou.

In his statement Akıncı stated that there are 6 chapters on the agenda of the negotiations and the issues of territory, security and guarantees will be discussed at the end stage of the talks.  That is why 4 chapters are being discussed. Akıncı also mentioned that progress has been achieved  with 4 chapters and the negotiations were intensified with these chapters. Mentioning the elections to be held in the Greek Cypriot side, Akıncı said that the barrage will be applied in this election for the first time.

2nd Traditional Yeşilırmak Strawberry Trek is happening

The 2nd Traditional Yeşilırmak Strawberry Trek will be held from Vouni Palace (Bademliköy) to Yeşilırmak on Sunday 27 March, 2016.  The trek will start from Vouni Palace which is the only ruin remaining from the Persian Empire in Cyprus and will continue to the area called “Daughter of Paradise” in which there is the chapel that represents three religions and finally the trekkers will reach the “Pirate Cave”.

Strawberry Trek

During the trek the largest verigo vine in Cyprus which is featured in the Guinness Book of World Records will be visited. There will also be an opportunity to photograph the famous Petra Island with its ruins from the Neolithic age.
