Prime Minister Kalyoncu: “The water issue to be finalized soon”

Prime Minister Ömer Kalyoncu stated that they will finalize the water issue in the coming days after the meeting with the government officials from Turkey.

Kalyoncu stated that an operation will be defined in the form of public-private partnership for the first time and the water will be transferred to the citizens. Stating that at this point municipalities are responsible for the issue, Kalyoncu said that the main aim is to ensure the transfer of the water to citizens by the cheapest and the best way.

Kalyoncu said that the municipalities and government are responsible for the water issue in the area of the TRNC, therefore it is natural to investigate the issue in detail.

Those who became martyrs during resistance against the British Colonial Rule were commemorated

Martyrs who resisted against the British Colonial Rule were commemorated with ceremonies which were held at the Martyrs’ Monument in Lefkoşa and Küçük Kaymaklı cemetery.

Protests carried out by the students were the beginning of the 27-28 January 1958 events after the news that the UK accepted division of the island. British Colonial rule used violence against the protesters. The following day protests spread over the whole island with the reaction to violence exerted towards the students.

During the events of 27-28 January 1958 great protest demonstrations were held in Limassol, Paphos, Larnaca and Famagusta and 7 Turks were killed and more than 100 people were injured.

Önen: “Suspected image of the country regarding illicit money has been removed”

Turkish Cypriot Co-Chairman of the Technical Committee on Crime and Criminal Matters Celal Önen stated that as the result of the bi-communal work of the Banking Unions in Cyprus which was carried out against laundering of illicit money, the international “suspect countries” image on Cyprus has been removed.

Reminding that the bi-communal Technical Committee on Crime and Criminal Matters was established by the leaders in April 2008 until the settlement of the Cyprus problem, Önen indicated that objectives or mandates of the technical committees are to ensure and to develop trust on prevention of crime between the citizens of the two communities and to cooperate in solving the problems which they face in their daily lives.

Tender for border gates of Derinya and Aplıç has been concluded

Interior and Labour Minister Asım Akansoy announced that the tender of the UNDP project has been concluded regarding the opening of the border gates of Derinya and Aplıç and the European Commission released 2.1 million Euros for the project financing.

Minister Akansoy also said that the resources which were allocated by the European Commission will be used through the UNDP within the framework of the Crossing Gates Committee studies at the Derinya and Lefke / Aplıç border gates.

Tourism Ministry attended the fair “The Holiday World show 2016” in Dublin

The Tourism Ministry attended the fair “The Holiday World Show 2016″ in the city of Dublin in Ireland  together with the local tourism sector representatives between the dates of January 22-24 within the framework of overseas tourism promotion and marketing activities.

Ministry officials and industry representatives met together and held meetings with Ireland, UK and the other European tour operators and gave information to visitors about the country’s tourism industry at the fair which was attended by almost 1,000 tourism professionals from 50 countries.

EMU Gastronomy and Culinary Art Department to attend 14th International Istanbul Gastronomy Festival

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Tourism Faculty, Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department will attend the 14th International Istanbul Gastronomy Festival which will be held in Istanbul between the dates of 11-14 February.

EMU will compete in the category of “The Best University of the Year.”

EMU Faculty of Tourism Vice Dean Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç indicated that EMU Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department will start institutional membership works for World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) within the festival.
