Tim Holmes – Rest in Peace

By Margaret Sheard……

Many people have known Julia Price and her partner Tim Holmes for many years and will have been saddened by the news that Tim had passed away in the UK on 15th November last year but had the chance to pay their respects at the interment of his ashes at Greenhill Cemetery on the 16th December 2015.  Cyprus is where Tim wished to be laid to rest.

Tim became seriously unwell in 2012 and had to return to the UK in 2013 where he spent his last two years in a specialist residential home.  He died painlessly and peacefully with his son holding his hand on 15th November 2015.  He leaves Julia Price, his companion for over 31 years, his daughter Lucy, son Dominic and four grandchildren who will all miss him sorely.

Tim and Julia

Julia, former BRS chairperson, requested donations to the Children in Need Foundation rather than flowers and CiNF are pleased to announce that Julia has presented the Foundation with a cheque for £235 raised from donations, for which they are very grateful to both Tim and Julia. These monies will go towards provisions for the Foodbank in Lefkosa that assists abandoned women and children during a traumatic period of their lives.

We have received from Julia some reflections about Tim, the man with whom she shared some 31 years of her life.   They were long term residents of Ilgaz having moved permanently to North Cyprus in 1996.

Tim was born in Northamptonshire on 20th August 1929.  He did military service with the Royal Artillery and studied Law at Oxford University.  His later employment as a Sales Manager involved travelling worldwide from which he developed a love of travel and when he took early retirement in 1984 he was able to pursue this interest and trekked in Turkey, the Himalayas and the Sierra Nevada in Spain as well as taking holidays in France, America, Morocco and various Mediterranean Islands, including Cyprus.

As well as a fascination for weather, temperature, rainfall and wind speeds in both the UK and Cyprus for which Tim kept records every day, he also found  time to undertake voluntary work for many charities.  In Cyprus Tim enjoyed long walks in the mountains, motor and quad biking, and snorkelling which provided him with the opportunity to combine his love of nature with photography.

Rest in Peace Tim. you will be sadly missed by Julia and your family.
