NCCCT Christmas Bazaar 2015

at Pia Bella Hotel, Girne

By Margaret Sheard….

It was a pretty dismal day on Saturday 12th December, with dark skies and drizzling rain, but that did not deter the crowds from attending the North Cyprus Cancer Charity Trust (NCCCT) Christmas Bazaar which was held at the Rowena and her chutneysPia Bella Hotel in Girne.

The main dining room of the hotel was full of stalls selling all types of items, cakes and pastries, jewellery, cards, ceramics, toys, clothes and much more and they all seemed to be doing well with their goods.   I said hello to Rowena who was there with her delicious chutneys and preserves and I also spotted Dawn with her lovely jewellery.

After taking a few photographs and looking around, I sat myself down with a coffee and mince pies to have a chat with a friend and survey all that was going on around me.  Everyone was looking very happy and getting into the Christmas spirit.

There was an auction for a huge teddy bear and I later spotted it with a lady in a wheelchair with a small child on her lap, the bear was almost as large as the two of them put together and enjoying the ride on the wheelchair as well.

I noticed the raffle prizes when I first arrived of which there was a very large number, and later the winning numbers were called which seemed to go on for a very long time, but eventually all of the items had been won and everyone looked very pleased with their winning prizes.

We have since been told that about 400 people came to the Christmas Bazaar and almost 13,000TL was raised on the day which will be added to the funds of NCCCT for the purchase of equipment for our local Girne hospital.

Well done to all the NCCCT volunteers who work so tirelessly, and they in turn would like to give thanks to the Pia Bella Hotel and their staff who looked after everyone so well, to the people who gave prizes for the raffle and tombola and to the people who came to the Christmas Bazaar to support this worthy charity.
