Creditwest ALL Cyprus Cricket Final

The South are coming and what a titanic Cricket battle it promises to be, with the Mustangs from South Nicosia taking on their immediate neighbours from North of the border, the Lefkoşa Legends.

TRNC Cricket chairman Nigel Holman told us, now both the South and North Cyprus 2015 leagues have finished, it’s time to settle the argument which side of the border has the best cricket team. This Sunday, the winners of each league will go head to head at the Alsancak Stadium in a 30 over/innings clash to settle the issue, starting at 11am.

Rudolph Crasto, manager of the Mustangs explains, his side are a very experienced  mixture of Indian sub-continent players who have dominated South Cyprus cricket for several years,  taking the 2012 T20 title, both the T20 and 40 overs in 2013. This year, they were unbeaten in the 40 league and now wish to add the impressive Creditwest All Cyprus Cup to their trophy cupboard.

The Mustangs are a strong all-round team, with some outstanding players to look out for including pace bowler Farhad, batsman Rehman and all-rounders Happy and Afridi. However, their real strength is the solid depth of their side.

The contrast with the Mustangs couldn’t be stronger, like all the sides in the North, the Lefkoşa Legends are a new side having converted from tennis to hard ball cricket only last year. Manager Muhammad Haseeb admitted they are the underdogs and it was going to be tough. However, adding with a smile, his players have a secret weapon, having played on the special artificial pitch several times, which must give his side an advantage. Secondly, the Southern league’s games have been slower 40 over cricket, whilst the Cup Final is over 30 overs, as we play the more attacking T20 format, maybe they will build their innings too slowly and we can snatch the title.

This exciting match will be held at 11am Sunday 13th December at the Alsancak Stadium. It is free admission and everyone is very welcome to come along and watch and cheer on the players.
