Eide: “Progress achieved on certain issues in the negotiations”

President Mustafa Akıncı received the UN Secretary Generals Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide.

In his statement to the press after his meeting with President Akıncı, Eide stated that at the intensified negotiations at the beginning of November progress was achieved on some issues. Noting that the meeting with President Akıncı was positive, Eide stated that they will hold the 6th meeting in November and there will be more meetings in December and they will decide how to proceed with their next meetings.

Stating that the intensified talks simplified the approach to the issues under the headings in the negotiations, Eide said, “We have progress in some issues and we have seen how we should be organized in some issues.”

Indicating that it is not appropriate to make an explanation on the concrete developments, because it is the leaders’ responsibility, Eide said, “Tomorrow (25th November) there will be a statement, and also this statement will be discussed at tomorrow’s (25th November) meeting.

Eide also stated: “We are also discussing how to make the most of international support, because any settlement will also have some international dimensions and UN dimensions to them.”

Akıncı and Anastasiades to meet again today

President Mustafa Akıncı and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades will meet again today within the framework of the Cyprus negotiations.

The meeting which will be held in the buffer zone will be the last of the 6 meetings planned to be held in November.

British bases in Cyprus proposed to be opened to France

Greek Cypriot Alithia and other newspapers published the news regarding UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s proposal to the President of France, François Hollande, after their meeting on the issue of opening Akrotiri Air Base in South Cyprus to France for its use against DAEŞ.

France to use British Bases

According to the Greek Cypriot daily Alithia, UK Minister of Defence Michael Fallon qualified this as ‘a support for France’ and it is supported strongly by France, the UK and the Greek Cypriot government.

Alithia also noted that in his statement, UK Minister of Defence Michael Fallon expressed that British bases will be used as a movement point of France’s war aircraft against DAEŞ.

“Bi-communal Peace Initiative-United Cyprus” to organize “Peace and Reunification Walk” on Saturday

“Bi-communal Peace Initiative-United Cyprus” is going to organize a “Peace and Reunification Walk” on Saturday.

The joint declaration which was signed by 73 political parties, organizations and non-governmental organizations was read during the press meeting held at the Home for Cooperation and those who desire unification of the island were invited to the Peace and Reunification Walk.

The Peace and Reunification Walk will start at 11:00 am at the TRNC Presidency.  Peace Initiative Representatives will submit a letter to President Mustafa Akıncı and to the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades.

Cyprus Turkish Businessmen Association will attend TÜRKONFED Summit

Cyprus Turkish Businessmen Association (İŞAD) will attend ‘Turkish Initiative and Business World Confederation, TÜRKONFED 19th Initiative and Business World Summit which is going to take place in Canakkale, Turkey

President of the Cyprus Turkish Businessmen Association (İŞAD) Metin Sadi said that they are planning to make the membership of İŞAD to TÜRKONFED official at the meeting, which will take place on 26-27 November.

Sadi said that TÜRKONFED represents 23 federations, 155 associations and over 30 thousand firms and it is the most widespread voluntary non-governmental organization in Turkey.

Trade Office attended World Islamic Cooperation Forum, SMIIC

The Trade Office represented the TRNC at the World Islamic Cooperation, Meteorology and Standardization Committee, SMIIC meeting.

At the meeting, which was held under the presidency of the Republic of Turkey Permissible (Helal) Food Accreditation, the steps to be taken were discussed.

Iran, United Arab Emirates, Senegal, Kyrgyzstan, Bosnia Herzegovina, Indonesia, Cameroon, Bangladesh, Jordan, Dubai and Libya participated in the meeting as well as the TRNC and Turkey.
