During recent flu seasons, between 80% and 90% of flu related deaths have occurred in people 65 years and older. However flu can affect and be spread by people of all ages. Travelling in enclosed environments, such as on planes can also facilitate the spread of flu and other respiratory viruses.

When more people get vaccinated against the flu, less flu can spread through that community. This is sometimes referred to as ‘herd immunity’.
