SOS Children’s Village receive donation
from “Funday Saturday’
event at JK’s Bar Lapta
A fundraising event at JK’s Bar in Lapta raised a total of 1230TL for two worthy causes.
Half of the proceeds from the ‘Funday Saturday’, held on Saturday 26th September, went to supporting cancer sufferer Vic Chappell and his wife, while the other 615TL went to funding the programmes providing family based care to children under SOS Children’s Village.
The event featured live music, karaoke, stalls, a d
isco, as well as a raffle with prizes.
Event organiser Lee Hickens came to SOS Children’s Village in Lefkoşa on Friday 9th October and presented the donation to the organisation’s fundraiser Şirin Damdelen, who presented him with a certificate of appreciation.
“We sincerely thank Lee Hickens, JK’s Bar, everyone who was involved and everyone who attended such a lovely event,” she said.
“This kind of support is vital, not just to fund the on-going care and support programmes for children in Northern Cyprus who have lost, or are at risk of losing, the care of their families, but also to raise awareness of our work especially among the expat community here.
She added: “Thanks to generous donations, just like this one, our family based care, family strengthening and education programmes are providing crucial services to 262 children, while our advocacy work aims to promote child rights to protect children across the country.”
