News Update

HIKE FOR HEROES (H4H)

We have received the following news update from the Royal British Legion, Kyrenia Branch, and would like to share it with our readers who may also like to support this very challenging fundraising walk.

As you are no doubt aware Gary Abbott & Graham Inglis are conducting a walk from the tip of the Karpaz to the lighthouse point at Sadrazamkoy between Tuesday 3rd and Saturday 7th November (a total distance of over 130 miles) in order to raise funds for both the RBL Kyrenia Branch and the registered UK military charity ‘Help for Heroes’.

Please find see poster below and a sponsorship form can be accessed by clicking here, which you can print off and obtain sponsorship on behalf of the branch.

The latest update from Gary is below:

While we are walking, be it training or the main event, your members can follow us if they so wish by GPS tracking. They will simply need to download an App called ‘Find my Friends’, once downloaded all they need to do is invite me:-taff44@gmail.com. or Graham:- yvonneinfrance@hotmail.co.uk then once accepted, anytime the accounts are active we can be followed, this is also overlaid I think on Google maps.

If it’s just general and historical information your members want then they can friend me on Facebook at: Gary Abbott Taff, our walks are also uploaded there. Our walking App is called ‘Walkmeter’ which is a really good app for walkers which tracks your route via sim, no need for 3g coverage with this and best of all both apps are free. If any members attempt to friend us please ask them to put ‘Longwalk’ in their request, to avoid spammers. Our help for heroes donating website is:

The walkers are determined to cover an average of at least 25 miles per day for the 5 day hike which will start at the Zafer Burnu (Victory point) in the Karpaz on Tuesday 3rd November, finishing at Sadrazamkoy point on the Saturday afternoon 7th November.  Walkers are encouraged to join them along the route and they are appealing to RBL members and the public to assist them in possibly providing accommodation en route in the area of the following locations:

3rd Nov – Karpaz Marina/Malibu Beach, 4th Nov – Kaplica, 5th Nov – Turtle Bay/Power Station.

If you think that you could offer them a bed for the night (or if you know of any businesses that may offer them free accommodation) as they pass on their way then please get in touch with Brian our Chairman at:  chair@rblkyrenia.com
