Ertuğruloğlu: “There are some disturbing developments on the property issue”

Minister of Transport Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu expressed his thoughts related to the negotiation process and said that the process is not transparent and he emphasized that there is a false conception which excites the Greek Cypriot side as “Turkish Cypriot side is ready to give everything”  Minister Ertuğruloğlu also expressed that there are some disturbing developments on the property issue.

Stating that he is also disturbed by the property issue like every TRNC citizen, Ertuğruloğlu said that they have been informed that some Greek Cypriots are coming with their title deeds and claiming their individual property rights and some Turkish Cypriots are being disturbed by this situation.

Minister Ertuğruloğlu said:  “No one has the right to disturb our people. Besides, within the context of the Cyprus problem, no one has such a right to force our people to leave their homes and to immigrate once again.”

Minister Ertuğruloğlu stressed that the European Court of Human Rights has taken a decision regarding the property issue stating that : “People who have been living in these houses for 41 years have the right of priority”, adding that negotiators should be asked whether they have discussed that issue at the negotiation table or not.

The Russian Federation transition model for Cyprus

While entering a critical period in the negotiations, Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister Yannis Kasulidis evaluated the latest developments in Cyprus to Sputnik. Kasulidis stated that the distance which separates the parties from each other is gradually decreasing and the formation of a federal system based on constituting states is approaching. Kasulidis also added that the Russian Federation transition model has been envisaged for Cyprus and a solution has been found on the issue of the citizens of the Republic of Turkey in the island.

Currently holding the door closed for the cooperation with Turkey on natural gas the experienced diplomat expressed that the guarantors were unnecessary on the island. Kasulidis also stated that some powers were trying to destroy the relations of South Cyprus with Russia in the past. (Kıbrıs Postası)

Akıncı: “I believe culture and art will make great contribution to the peace in the world and in Cyprus”

In his speech during the opening of the 13th Cyprus Theatre Festival, President Mustafa Akıncı stated that he believed that culture and art would provide a major contribution to the peace both in the world and in Cyprus.

President Akıncı reminded that during the years when the border gates were closed, the Lefkoşa Municipality Theatre performed a play of Aristofanes entitled “Peace” in Satirigo Theatre in South Cyprus for the first time in 1987.

Lefkoşa Municipality Orchestra will present concerts before each performance during the festival until the 29th of September.

Walked from Cyprus to Britain

Captain Ed Lloyd Owen worked as a communication officer at the British Contingent of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus for 6 months. After his contract had finished, he launched a campaign in order to support the UK Veterans Association in March and he started a six-month walk.

Captain Lloyd Owen made the 4500 kilometers journey through TRNC, Turkey, Greece, Macedonia, Albania, Italy, Switzerland and France respectively before reaching the UK. Owen said that during his six months journey, the most fearsome events which he met were wandering dogs in Turkey and drunken teenagers in Italy.

Women’s shelter is being established

Prime Minister Ömer Kalyoncu said that the Council of Ministers which gathered yesterday decided to establish a Women’s Shelter, which will provide a place of temporary refuge and support for women exposed to violence.

Prime Minister Kalyoncu pointed out that nowadays there shouldn’t be violence against women but unfortunately a women’s shelter is needed in order to create a safe place for the continuing violence against women.

Meanwhile, Kalyoncu emphasized that a decision was also taken towards establishing a Public Counseling Centre within the framework of the Good Administration Law which will check out whether the works are going well in the public or not, thus helping the citizens.

Play ‘Empire Builders’ headed to KKTC Festival

“İmparatorluk Kuranlar Yahut Şümürz”, a 2014 Turkish production of the 20th-century French play “Les bâtisseurs d’empire” (The Empire Builders) is headed to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC) for a performance as part of this year’s Cyprus Theatre Festival, organized by the Nicosia Turkish Municipality. The play, which is the debut production by the Istanbul-based theatre company Hayal Perdesi, recently had a victorious run at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where it was staged 14 times as the only performance in the Turkish language in the line-up. French writer Boris Vian’s 1959 absurdist text is directed by Alaksandar Popovski in the Hayal Perdesi production, set for a Sept. 17 performance at the Cyprus festival, which is marking its 13th edition from Sept.1 through to Sept. 29.
