ERDAL BARUT MEMORIAL MATCH.

Result ; ESENTEPE 0 OZANKÖY 2.

It has been 2 years since the then Village and Football Club President Erdal Barut was killed in a car accident. Every year on the anniversary of his death the Football Club hold a Memorial match to remember him.

This year Ozanköy were the visitors and deservedly won the trophy by completely outplaying Esentepe. Ozanköy who are one league below Esentepe looked the more cohesive and organised team.

Ozanköy missed a penalty in the 19th minute, when Bekir’s shot hit the post and was cleared.

Both Ozanköy’s goals were the result of goalkeeping errors, committed virtually identically by different keepers.

Firstly in the 24th minute Esentepe’s veteran keeper Serkan, clearance from a back pass hit an Esentepe defender and fell invitingly to Hasan to score easily. With Esentepe’s regular goalkeeper Ali now no longer at the club (see separate posting), Serkan has returned to Esentepe after playing for them 5 years ago.

Ozanköy’s second goal came in the 85th minute, with Esentepe up field seeking an equaliser, a long ball caught Esentepe’s defence flat footed and also replacement keeper Tuğrulwas well outside his area, leaving Zeki the easy chance of shooting into an empty net.

Esentepe’s best chance of the match came in the second half when an Emek free kick hit the underside of the bar and bounced out to Nersin who managed to head over the bar from only a few yards out.

The match enabled Coach Gokan Kim to give his squad a work out, though the score is not really important, we should beat teams from a lower division.

After the match there was a ceremony where plaques and medals were handed out to both teams and match officials, by Erdal Barut’s wife Merhum, son Celal and daughter Iclal.
