Akıncı: “We have requested support from the European Union for the hellim producers here”

In his speech during one of his receptions President Mustafa Akıncı mentioned that they have requested support from the European Union for the producers  here.  Akıncı said: “It was possible to give Akinci - Hellim35 million Euros to Greek producers. Our producers also need the same thing. They are in need of help and time. Thereby, there will be a transition period in this regard. The important thing is that we should know and be prepared for this. Of course we have talked this issue with the EU and we will continue to talk, I have requested this support from them on your behalf, and on behalf of our producers, we expect their support in this regard”.

Stating that they made an agreement on 16th of July, during the visit of the President of European Commission to the island Akıncı expressed that they hoped this will be concluded within six months.  Akıncı stated that the producers will do their part and an international company will supervise hellim production in both South and North. Akıncı also said that after the registration of the hellim is confirmed, the government and the EU have duties regarding support to the producers. President Mustafa Akıncı said: “Hellim, can only be produced in the whole of Cyprus under the name of hellim and halloumi. This is a very important development”. Expressing that he is also sensitive on the government problems, Akıncı said: “Yes, our main topic is Cyprus, while striving for a positive result in negotiations, life is going on. Problems of our animal breeders also remain in the agenda”.

In his speech during the reception of the Turkish Cypriot Animal Producers and Breeders Association yesterday President Mustafa Akıncı drew attention that milk and hellim issues are current and important.  Mustafa Akıncı stated in his speech: “25 percent of our exports is hellim, so we are talking about an extremely important issue”.

A leader of Palestinian People’s Party, Ivad: “Israel agreed to the construction of a floating dock, 3 kilometers offshore from Gaza coastline and directly related to TRNC”

It is stated that Hamas movement in Palestine is discussing details of Israel peace negotiations with Palestinian group and international and European sides which UK Ex-Prime Minister Tony Blair was part of. One of the leaders of Palestinian People’s Party, Valid el-İvad said that the most important article about peace agreement between Israel and Hamas is that Israel agreed to the construction of a “floating dock”, under the supervision of Israel and NATO, 3 kilometers offshore from Gaza coastline and directly related to the TRNC.

Eide has informed Çavuşoğlu about the negotiation process

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu received UN Secretary General`s Special Advisor for Cyprus Espen Barth Eide yesterday. According to diplomatic sources, Eide informed Çavuşoğlu about the content of the talks and expressed his satisfaction on the support Turkey has pledged for the process.  Çavuşoğlu, on the other hand, stressed Turkey’s determination to reach a fair and lasting settlement on the basis of the political equity of the Turkish Cypriots.

The Turkish Minister underlined that Turkey would continue to support the efforts for a comprehensive settlement on the island. The UNSG Special Advisor tweeted photographs from his personal Twitter account yesterday saying “Concluding a good visit to Ankara” and posted a photograph of himself and Çavuşoğlu and the UN Team.

Events for the 41st Anniversary of Second Stage of Cyprus Peace Operation are starting today.In Memory of the Martyrs

After the 41st Anniversary celebration events on account of liberation of Gazimağusa, Serdarlı and Lefke are held, Martyrs of Muratağa-Sandallar, Atlılar and Taşkent will be commemorated.

In the framework of the 41st  Anniversary of liberation of Serdarlı a ceremony will be held today in front of the Ataturk Bust in Serdarlı.

A commemoration service for the Martyrs of Muratağa-Sandallar and Atlılar will also be held today and a commemoration service for Martyrs of Taşkent will be held tomorrow.

Denktaş to make a new proposal on property issue

Serdar DenktasThe DP party leader Serdar Denktaş said that they are preparing to bring about a new proposal on the issue of property by adapting ‘global exchange’ to the present day. Denktaş indicated that he would be holding a press conference tomorrow to make this announcement and added that there is no other alternative to global exchange. Denktaş was speaking at the reception of the delegation of Cyprus Existence Movement and he said that the real issue was property and it is the most difficult one. He noted that hopefully we will find a formula and sort it out altogether.

Turkish Cypriot property historic buildings in Paphos are to be demolished

Greek Ministry of Internal Affairs assigned the Turkish Cypriot property historic buildings, located at Kennedy Square, central Paphos, to the Paphos Municipality for demolition. According to the news from Greek newspaper Fileleftheros, Turkish Cypriot property historic buildings have been used as establishments for education for years and lastly it served as Nikolaidio Secondary School.  The news also wrote that Paphos Municipality is planning to reconstruct Kennedy Square and its whole neighbourhood.

As stated in the news, the Greek Ministry of Internal Affairs sent a letter to Paphos Municipality stating that they agreed the request to assign the ownership and management responsibility of the mentioned Turkish Cypriot property historic buildings in the capacity of so-called “Guardian of Turkish Cypriot Properties”.

According to the news
Paphos Municipality is planning to reconstruct Kennedy Square and its neighbourhood and build social gathering and event areas. After the Greek Ministry of Internal Affairs gave its consent in the capacity of so called “Guardian of Turkish Cypriot Properties” historical buildings north of the square are going to be demolished in a few months and will be used as car parking and green areas.
